We are elated to have you at Slumber Village, a charming and original set of cottages that have withstood the test of time and remain an emblem of Alaskan spirit.
Established in 1946, Slumber Village has a rich history that intertwines with the very fabric of Anchorage's creation, serving as a residence for the hardworking lumberjacks who played an instrumental role in the city's first buildings.
What makes our cottages particularly special is their resilience. Not only do they predate Alaska's statehood by over a decade, but they also stood firm against the mighty 9.2 magnitude earthquake of 1964. A walk through our units will offer you glimpses of this history; from the slight grading in the flooring, hinting at nature's force, to the distinctive angle of the roof on cottage 10. These are not flaws, but stories etched in wood and earth.
Slumber Back Story
In 2020, we found the property for sale and we were presented with a choice – let Slumber Village fade into history or breathe new life into its walls. We chose the latter, preserving this original gem for travelers like you. While we've modernized the interiors for your comfort, we've ensured that the quirks and character that make Slumber Village unique remain intact.
Our location in Spenard only adds to the allure. Within a stone's throw, you'll find Anchorage's favorite restaurants, scenic trails, bustling nightlife, artistic cafes, and much more.
